Ashes to Earth
for cemeteries
“We see families coming from everywhere because we allow scatterings.
We’re embracing what’s important to them and it’s a positive advantage for our cemeteries.”
– Jean-Paul Narbonne, City of Niagara Falls
Scattering Gardens
Designed to compost cremated remains in three to five years, scattering gardens powered by Ashes to Earth soil science provide ongoing capacity that complements traditional plots and niches while leaving a positive environmental footprint.
As remains convert to earth, gardens self-regenerate–making space available for future generations or growing communities. We calculate your annual capacity, so you can focus on families. Just follow the simple scattering SOPs we provide and reap the rewards year after year.
-
Scattering Gardens provide flexibility for cemeteries large and small, and can be designed specifically for your space and aesthetic. Many of our clients use them to optimize land space in sections with tree roots, slopes, or a higher water table.
In most jurisdictions adding a Scattering Gardens requires permission from the provincial regulator. To ensure project success, we offer support with regulator approval prior to invoicing.
-
Our Scattering Garden solutions are available as Full Projects, with end-to-end planning and launch support, or as simple Bulk Soil orders.
-
Cremated remains have the pH of bleach and the sodium of 2 Cups of table salt. Over time, they are fatal to nearly all plants and can cause expensive damage to surrounding landscaping.
For active scattering areas, ask about our treatment or remediation program. We'll customize a soil amendment to correct your soil health and increase interment capacity, with minimal impact to operations. We'll also provide a full report of before and after lab results.
-
Projects are quoted by the cubic yard, and by delivery to your cemetery location.
Ashes to Earth creates self-regenerating scattering gardens with the highest return-on-investment of any interment solution. The average project has a cost recovery of 2-3 years, and generates ongoing revenue for decades.

Cremation Plots
The earth-friendly cremation option for families with multi-generational plots or seeking private memorials.
Using Ashes to Earth with remains in traditional cemetery sections, natural burial grounds, or for memorial tree programs supports the environment while also providing higher plant success and requiring less maintenance and less water to keep cemetery grounds beautiful and healthy.
-
For traditional plots, cemetery staff combine cremated remains with Ashes to Earth soil either before or after opening the grave. The grave is then closed as usual.
Plots can be finished as sod, or designed as a memorial garden that is planted and maintained by either the family or the cemetery team.
Your team receives SOPs, training (30–60 min), and ongoing support as you need it.
