How it Works: About Ashes to Earth™

Cremation ashes have a pH similar to bleach and contain harmful levels of sodium—making them toxic to plants. Our Ashes to Earth Planting Kits use patented soil science to convert cremated remains into plant-friendly, organic earth.

Use a small portion of ashes, or up to a full urn. Plant right away, or years later. Memorial Planting Kits are available in three sizes, and are perfect for combining with traditional cremation options or choosing after years on the mantle. Giving you the precious gift of time and choice during an overwhelming period.

See below for how to use your Ashes to Earth™ planting kit.

Spreading cremated remains is permitted on all private property with owner permission in Canada, and all crown land unless otherwise signed. For questions on regulations or crown land in your area, consult your licensed funeral provider.

Planting with Cremation Ashes: How to use your memorial planting kit

PLANTING

Ashes may be planted together or in multiple planters which can be shared with family or friends.

Use with any variety of indoor or outdoor plant, and follow the standard instructions for planting and care.

CEMETERY BURIAL

Most cemeteries will permit cremation burials at a family plot with a Planting Kit. Some cemeteries may consider this a natural burial and have special guidelines in place. Contact your cemetery or email us directly to inquire.

SCATTERING

In Canada, scattering or spreading of cremation ashes can be done on any private land with the owner’s permission. Spreading is also permitted in Provincial Parks, National Parks, and other Crown land. Some local parks or forests may also permit scattering ashes. Please verify regulations in your chosen locations prior to scattering. More details here.

Please note: If using this method, let product sit with remains for 120 days or more before spreading in nature. This gives the soil product time to begin the conversion of Ashes to Earth.

Our son Mitchell passed away from a very rare neurological condition at age 19... When it came time to decide how to memorialize Mitchell, we decided against a burial, for economic reasons... We chose to plant a dogwood tree—also known as the “resurrection tree”... I’m grateful for the expertise and compassion of the Let Your Love Grow team.
